EQ, IQ, SQ Decoding The 3 Qs Of Holistic Education & Why They Are Essential?

What does it take to be a compelling change leader in the 21st Century?

Is it a combination of solid logical-thinking skills, a solid personal brand, and unprecedented humility? Or then again, perhaps holistic vision, enthusiasm and key strategizing abilities that make ‘activity equivalent to accomplishment’ turn into the core mandates?

Perhaps there isn’t one right answer to this question, yet the one thing that becomes sure here is, to become a compelling change pioneer of the 21st Century, you WILL need to draw on all the above attributes, and after that some more…

Reading Between The Lines — Reality vs Learning By Rote!

As understudies, students and learners of today, from the minute you enter the door of the classroom to the moment you get the graduation certificate in hand, the full force of ‘reality’ remains somewhat limited to textbooks and theoretically passed on information.

Sure, as students you will probably be ‘nurtured, taught and encouraged’ in developing worldly skills, but the fact remains that the massive, glaring gap between ground reality and bookish knowledge continues to exist!

From Courage To Confidence, Confusion To Clarity…

The leader of tomorrow is expected to be intuitive and innovative, bold and brave, enlightened, effective and engaging, and proportionately in-built with a high risk — high return entrepreneurial style. Top this with 98th percentile and higher levels of IQ (Intelligent Quotient) and you’ve got what it takes to become the man/woman for the top job, no?

But is it possible that arrogance, toxicity, workaholism, and weakness — attributes of EQ (Emotional Quotient) —— at the workplace might mean you’ll be shown the door? Or might it be that indifference, apathy, and narcissism — attributes of SQ (Spiritual Quotient) — might land you up in the next headcount shave-off?

So, does this imply that merely a high IQ no longer cuts the ice and that in order to become a holistic leader, the Intelligent Quotient (IQ), the Emotional Quotient (EQ) and the Spiritual Quotient (SQ) must be in absolute, perfect alignment?

Why EQ, IQ, SQ Form The Cornerstones Of Holistic Education…

Modern academic institutions, such as Regenesys, take on this responsibility even more conscientiously by imbuing their curricula with the full range of course material that holistically covers all three — EQ, IQ, and SQ.

Let’s first understand how and why these 3 Qs form the cornerstones of holistic education…

1. IQ - Cognitive Intelligence:

IQ (Intelligent Quotient) essentially deals with the cognitive intelligence of assimilating given information, logical thinking and the weighing of options, sifting through complex problems and coming up with plans, solving problems, drawing on intuition & using imagination, and grasping and applying past learning's to present experiences.

In the new approach towards the 3Qs, cognitive pedagogy has come a long way, in that, the curriculum invokes, challenges and opens up new avenues for entrepreneurial, disruptive thinking. In a sense, it creates a positive and invaluable first-mile learning outcome for understudies, students, and learners of today’s generation.

Modern inverse pedagogy focuses on targeted, specific strategies that extend beyond the typical, traditional assessment structure. So while some avant-garde institutes do away with pre-test dicta, some others find that Easy 5 (a method where 5 tough questions, if solved, allow for the student to pass over the easy ones) become the perfect solution for nurturing cognitive intelligence.

Either way, cognitive-enabled pedagogy helps create a focused environment that utilizes creative teaching-methodologies and challenging curricula to nurture and facilitate leadership cognition.

2. EQ- Emotional Intelligence:

A highly intelligent leader who leads team members astray throws unnecessary tantrums and is prone to volatility in emotionally charged situations is one who will typically rank low on EQ.

On the other hand, the equanimous leader who is in control of his/her emotions, and possesses the knack of managing feelings of self (tantrums, envy, anger) & that of others, is an evolved, emotionally intelligent, high EQ leader.

In the perspective of academic institutions, developing this form of intelligence calls on using a slightly different instructional method technique.

How? Let’s take a look below to understand this concept in detail:

Carefully formulated, new-age curricula covers the scope of EQ cultivation, cherishment, and exchange of EQ attributes. It assists in making students emotionally reliable, complete and capable, in that, not only can the student be trained to manage inter/intrapersonal feelings but also become skilled at efficiently controlling others’ emotions productively.

A successful EQ pedagogy brings into play attributes such as compassion, inventiveness, and self-confidence.

And the result?

An evolved and highly developed EQ has displayed stunning results by influencing others to emulate positive behavior, inspiring trust between inter/intrapersonal relationships, encouraging self-awareness, compassion and social skill — all of which tangibly add to the brand value of a company/organization.

3. SQ- Spiritual Intelligence:

Some might scoff, others might outright disagree. But exponents of this form of intelligence have another story to tell.

Let’s understand the basics of this intelligence, shall we?

Essentially, a spiritually intelligent individual seeks to answer the foundational, organic questions about life.

But SQ isn’t only about a basal Q&A, it is more than that. Much more!

SQ builds and develops the character of the self, enabling him/her to seek the purpose of life while elevating the self to go above and beyond the trappings of the physical and material world.

Holistic education and SQ backed pedagogy vastly differs from the traditional antagonistic, dog-eat-dog mentality by placing self-realization in the top order of things. SQ-enabled curricula act as a catalyst in transforming the being from chasing worldly goals to seeking a higher consciousness. Beyond that, spiritual intelligence does away with predisposed conditioned behavior and assists the individual to draw on spiritual deep pockets for resolving issues in everyday life.

It is generally viewed as the last mile approach for, figuratively speaking; closing the loop on an understudy's learning outcome in an educative set-up.

And the result?

Students, a.k.a future leaders who are dependable, ethical, highly efficient at stress-management, and unequivocally                                                                     committed to sustainable performance for themselves and that of others!
